What Is The Best Wood Panel For Making Kitchens, Plywood Or Mdf?

2023-11-16 14:18:53

There is no quick or easy answer. All things depend onbudget, where the kitchen is, the style of kitchen, the size of the kitchen.

The most expensive plywood you could possibly use would be marine grade or maybe Baltic Birch. You need something at least 7-plies thick to minimize warpage, because plywood will cup to one surface And never, ever, EVER use plywood to make your doors and drawer fronts. The warpage will turn your kitchen ugly fast as soon as you endure the first seasonal temperature swings or the higher humidity of the summer.

Few kitchen cabinets are made entirely from solid wood It's expensive, it mostly goes unseen, and the seasonal expansion/contraction of the wood makes spacing and gaps between doors difficult to maintain I m not saying it s an utter waste of money, because 100% solid wood cabinets will outlast anything else in the house. but it 's not the common route. almost all kitchens, save for the rare exceptions, have cabinets that are made from man-made sheet materials and are designed to look like solid wood You have a few options for man-made sheet materials when constructing kitchen cabinets.

The three main cores, or substrates, of the sheet materials that make up kitchen cabinetry can be

1. MDF(Medium Density Fibreboard

2. Particleboard

3. Plywood (at least 5-ply)

Those three cores will have different coverings , or veneers, on either one or both faces.
